Why you should consider acupressure for back pain relief.

Why you should consider acupressure for back pain relief.

There are a number of different problems that can be overcome by almost forgotten arts that have been used for, at times, thousands of years.  One of these is acupressure, a distant cousin of acupuncture.  It has been practiced for a very long time and many people swear by it, saying that it helps them overcome everything from overeating to a sore back.  If you have never tried acupressure before you would probably be surprised with how simple it is to go through and how much you can actually help you.

Acupressure is actually just the applying of pressure on the body with the fingertips or thumbs in the same areas that acupuncture is applied.  Believe it or not, this actually seems to be a little bit more effective than acupuncture in many cases and it may actually help your back more than traditional physical therapy.  It is painless and at times, actually rather enjoyable to go through this process.  Finding someone that does acupressure in your area should not be too difficult, it is gaining in popularity and any homeopathic doctor should be able to point you in the right direction.

Of course, medical science is not going to get behind a natural cure so you’re going to have to look at some independent studies in order to find out whether this is an effective treatment for back pain or not.  According to some studies that were done in which some people received acupressure for their back pain while others received more traditional physical therapy, the people who received acupressure actually had a higher percentage of recovery.  These are rather amazing numbers, considering the fact that many doctors and even insurance companies will not recognize acupressure as a legitimate medical practice.

Of course, it is going to be up to you whether you want to use acupressure as a way to overcome your back pain but it may be preferable to pharmaceuticals that have a number of different side effects.  Not only that, pharmaceuticals and doctors rarely ever treat the actual problem, they simply help you to be able to deal with the symptoms.  Acupressure, on the other hand, goes right to the source of the problem and attempts to treat it from there.  It is a great way for you to be able to overcome these type of problems naturally.

Do You Have Back Pain? Take a closer look at the scale.

Do You Have Back Pain? Take a closer look at the scale.

If there is one problem that more of us experience on a regular basis, it is a problem with our weight.  More than likely, this is something that we have been dealing with for our entire life and it ends up taking a toll on our body in one way or another.  Although it certainly can affect us in a number of different ways, it is common for us to have back pain as a result of carrying the weight around.  That is why if you are having a problem with your back, you should first blame the scale.

The reason why of weight gain is such a bad thing for the back is because it puts the spine out of alignment.  It also tends to put our hips out of alignment and as they tilt forward, they can put undue pressure on the sciatic nerve which can be rather painful.  The human body was made incredibly but it was not made to carry this extra weight around every day, all day.  Fortunately, much of the pain that we experienced in our back as a result of the weight that we are carrying around is not permanent.  If we are able to lose the weight, the pain will more than likely subside to a certain extent.

If you are dealing with back problems and also have a problem with your weight, you may be somewhat limited as to what you can do in order to lose the weight.  For those of us that are healthy and overweight, we may consider running or walking to be a viable alternative of getting exercise.  If your back limits you and this case, you might want to consider simply going on a calorie restricted diet in order to drop the pounds.

Look online for a calorie calculator and determine how many calories you burn every day on a regular basis.  Reduce the amount of calories that you are eating until you are at anywhere from a 500 to a 1000 calorie a day deficit.  If you are consistent with this, you will lose anywhere from one to 2 pounds every week which is a healthy weight loss and will quickly get your back into shape.  Not only will you feel better but you will also look better and you will be better mentally.
